Job Description for Planning Specialist

Job Purpose

  • To collect, analyze and report data regarding the performance of buses/routes in order to assist in the development of new routes or changes in existing routes, with the aim of optimizing utilization of available resources and meeting the organizational objectives of MWASALAT.

Key Responsibilities

  • To conduct surveys with the objective of identifying opportunities of introducing new routes and making changes in existing routes, so as to achieve operational and cost efficiency and meet business objectives of MWASALAT. To plan and arrange the logistical requirements to carry out surveys and to ensure that the data collected is archived in a systematic manner. To ensure that proper statistical tools and techniques are being used for the analysis of the data. To guide the surveyor and other staff with the same. To prepare ad-hoc reports for senior management and to ensure that analysis is presented in a meaningful and effective manner. To carry out simulations and create statistical models which will help senior management in making more informed decisions. To oversee and approve the preparation of the questionnaires, surveys, and other data collections tools. To analyze data from various surveys and prepare detailed reports on new recommended routes or changes in existing routes including details like number and location of stops, vehicle operator requirements and their allowances, possible fares etc. To prepare reports and regular updates on the issues and challenges in the public transportation in Oman. To strive for continuous improvement in the data collection and reporting system which would enable a more effective decision support system. To drive IT enablement of the survey and other data gathering, analysis and archival processes. To prepare reports (in coordination with Finance Department) on the performance of public service buses on various routes on parameters of revenue & passengers. To stay up-to-date with the current on transportation planning principles, practices, and new developments. Any other assigned duties from time to time.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Transportation, Logistics, or any other related field.

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of 1 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years of experience in a management/Specialist capacity in transportation or related industry. Good knowledge in MS office (Word, Excel, and Outlook.)Experience in using BI platforms or other data management tools Experience in using Arc GIS, Google maps and Google earth. Experience in data analysis and data management. Full professional fluency in English and Arabic.
